About Golden Horn Brass
Golden Horn Brass is Turkey’s first professional brass quintet and a pioneering ensemble in the country’s classical music scene. Founded in 2004 by Begüm Gökmen, the group consists of two trumpets, a horn, a trombone, and a tuba, offering audiences a powerful and distinctive sound rarely heard in traditional concert settings.
At a time when repertoire for brass quintet was limited both in Turkey and worldwide, the ensemble chose a challenging yet inspiring artistic path. Golden Horn Brass actively expands the brass repertoire by commissioning works from Turkish composers, while also performing carefully arranged selections from a wide range of musical styles, including Baroque, Classical, contemporary music, and jazz.
The ensemble’s mission is to bring a fresh musical perspective to Turkish audiences and to reach international listeners in search of new and original sounds. Since July 2004, Golden Horn Brass has performed extensively throughout Turkey, presenting concerts that highlight the expressive richness and versatility of brass instruments.
In addition to its concert activities, Golden Horn Brass places strong emphasis on musical education. In 2007, the ensemble launched a series of Educational Concerts, performing at elementary schools and introducing young audiences to brass instruments and classical music in an engaging and accessible way.
Through its innovative programming, commissioned works, and commitment to education, Golden Horn Brass continues to play a significant role in promoting brass music and enriching Turkey’s contemporary classical music landscape.
